Remember Isis King? She was a contestant on the eleventh and seventeenth cycles of America’s Next Top Model and the first transgender woman to compete on the show which is getting a Tyra Banks overhaul for the upcoming season. Isis didn’t win the modeling contract that comes along with being the official top model of the series but she did just land a new campaign with American Apparel that’s making a big fashion statement about gay rights.
In a partnership with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the controversial apparel maker has come up with a series of screen tees with sayings like “Legalize Gay” and “GAY OK,” that will partially benefit GLAAD in its upcoming pride marches across the country. With this pro lesbian and gay rights campaign, who better to represent that effort than Isis, whose role in the advertisements strikes another first for her as being the only openly transgender model to appear in an American Apparel campaign this far.
This may also be the most modest up of any American Apparel advertisement as they’re known for pushing many nudity buttons when it comes to their new collections. Looks like AA decided to keep it classy in their push for gay rights.
