We don’t expect much from a rapper who would release a track called “Stupid Hoe,” but we didn’t foresee Nicki Minaj using a phrase in her songs that was previously employed to publicly degrade a group of her fellow black women. In 2007, Don Imus notoriously used the term “nappy headed hoes” to refer to the winning Womens Rutgers Basketball team. Ironically, when backlash ensued, Imus defended it by saying: “That phrase [nappy-headed ho] didn’t originate in the White Community. That phrase originated in the Black community. Young Black women all through that society are demeaned and disparaged and disrespected by their own Black men, and they are called that name in Black hip hop.” After he “apologized,” and even Al Sharpton stepped in, Imus’ CBS show, “Imus in the Morning,” was cancelled and he was fired. Now, one of our own women in “black hip hop” are calling us that name. How can we demand respect out of non-blacks if this is how we speak to each other?

Nicki’s lyrics, on “Stupid Ho,” are as follows:

Them nappy headed hoes but my kitchen good.

It also isn’t her first time using the term. In “Did It On ‘Em,” from her first album, she says:

These little nappy headed hoes need a perminator.

Nicki repeating “nappy headed hoes” is the latest in attacks on blacks by blacks that we’ve seen in hip hop. From n*ggers to b*tches, there are several racist and sexist derogatory terms that certain rappers have adapted and used against their own, some “re-imagined” to suddenly have positive connotations, some retaining their original negative demarcations. The phenomenon reeks of self-hatred, especially when you take into account Nicki’s follow-up lyrics in “Stupid Ho”: “yall nappy headed hos but my kitchen good.” By “good,” we can ascertain she means straightened by the “perminator” and blonde or in other words, chemically altered to appear as “European” as possible, such is the standard of beauty overwhelmingly subscribed to in America and beyond. The fact that Nicki considers herself superior to “nappy” black women because of her permed, blonde hair is only more deplorable when you consider the impact it can have on her thousands of impressionable black, female fans.

What do you think of Nicki Minaj using “nappy headed hoe” in her lyrics?

That wasn’t the only thing racist that she said. This song is allegedly about Lil’ Kim, and in the song she said that …”you gon be the stunt double to he nigga monkey” now look..she took her coonish behaviour to a whole other level and with the election year here & the GOP trying to get us to go back to Jim Crow day just makes me really & truly resent and deeply dislike her. Her main audience NOW are rich lil White kids that think this is hilarious…if I watched someone from another race talk about their own I would be amused too. She needs to issue an apology for this lol #seriously

In the line previous to “that n*gga monkey” she mentioned MJ’s pet monkey Bubbles.

Anyway, that song is trash. I expect nothing but the very least from her. I keep my ear to the underground for female lyricists.

  7. Uhm…what does Nicki’s hair look like without all that weave? Let’s see who really is the nappy headed hoe. Show us up Nicki, make us a lie…with your nappy headed self. Self hate is a boogerbear in the AA community. Well, what can you expect from a woman trying desperately to look like a white barbie doll?

Trying to apply logic to the music of someone with supposed multiple personalities is a waste of a good argument. I happen to like the silly corkiness of Nicki’s music, but this diss track is ridiculous. Nicki is damn near 30 and too damn old and grown.

“Did It On Em” is when I stopped hoping she might do something worth listening to.

Don’t mistake it, though, yes a lot of white suburbanites will gobble this… but the vast majority of homeless teenagers (black, native and white) I used to case manage knew every lyric to every Nicki Minaj and Weezy song out there. Young Money is huuuuuge in real street culture.

Just makes this BS all the more sad. I don’t think Nicki Minaj is what Shad was talking about…

“I talk to women, I just can’t talk for women
    That’s for you
    We need women for that
    More women in rap
Even tracks like Kwali’s Four Women
That’s still only half the view of the world
There’s no girls rappin’ so we’re only hearin’ half the truth
What we have to lose? Too much
Half our youth aren’t represented, the better halves of dudes”

I’ll tell you one thing. I guarantee that my thick, bushy, kinky, coily hair – that falls below my shoulders – is shinier, healthier and more bout it than the ate off mess this chick hides under her Lil Kim wigs.

Look, y’all. This girl is the white and black man’s puppet. They package these chicks to appeal mostly to whites and non blacks at black women’s and girl’s expense. It’s a daily dose of poison and the purpose is to kill black women’s and girl’s souls slowly – served by a black girl who worships black men who hate black women.

As pathetic and infuriating as she is, “Nicki Minaj” doesn’t write her own rhymes. She dutifully recites these poisonous lyrics because she worships the (nearly worthless, falling) dollar and wants to remain a member of the “Money Cash Hoes” clique. This is deep, spiritual Pusherman ish. Black men who hate black women are the suppliers and “Nicki Minaj” the plastic “Barbie” doll is the dealer.

I am so glad the music industry is dying. Sales are falling faster than turds down the toilet. We must eliminate these poisons from our diets.

After I watched this video and heard her say that, I immediately turned it OFF. A few days prior to seeing it, I was harassed on the street by a man that screamed “Nappy headed hoe” repeatedly at me on the street. I am glad someone is finally paying attention. This is not the worst of what she has done. She did a whole tour pulling out a dildo and pretending to piss on another girl who was on all fours on the floor with an audience made up mostly of kids. (google it) She gave a 13 year old boy a lap dance. (google it) She told girls to expose their pink panties on the day she dropped pink Friday and had young girls tweeting inappropriate pictures of themselves in their undergarments. I do not understand how women support this woman or anyone for that matter. This is not the first time she referred to Black women as Nappy Headed Hoes. She also used the term Nigga Monkey in this song stupid ho. She went on Ellen with the little girl knowing that the lyrics were inappropriate( he might sell coke) and then told the little girl to stay in school. If a white man said the things she said and did the things she did we would be calling for his head… wait a min we already did. Don Imus can’t do it but Nikki can. FYI Stupid Ho trended on twitter twice.

Nicki Minaj is so ignorant! She has to be held accountable for her actions. Yes, black parents have to do better and be more selective about what they allow their children to listen to, but not every black child has parents or at least parents that care. As they say it takes a village to raise a child. Black folks who know better can not allow this ignorance to continue in our community.

I concur with nearly everyones comment. The other additional thing is he Gay, BI, Transgender following. I recently read an open letter to Nicki Minaj from a gay author and it was very telling. Appartenly she agreed to be on the cover of “OUT” magazine. She did so, obviously for the dollar signs she saw in her future. She thought she’d get Lady Gaga’s following. She’s not a lesbian, she’s not bi and she’s not Gay. Yet she did something so grimy as to appear in their publication in order to garner that VERY large following.

See the open letter here: http://nervousacid.org/post/1476977486/open-letter-to-nicki-minaj

Also, anyone who uttered the word “Faggot” in a song is not Gay, Les, Bi, Transgender peiod! She used “Faggot” in her “Dead Wrong” song. Youtube it, you’ll get to see the original Nicki Maraj. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUu6WuGrR8A&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL61B5CD3BCC241AF7

I love how she says she “used to be” the old nicki. Come on girl, you were “that girl” all your life including the 8 years you were mixtaping it. So what? You get fame and it’s like “oh that’s not me”. COme one, you sold out and packaged yourself.

Nicki’s been stressing Kim since as early as 2003 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbZLjp-FIc8 (Hoodstars 2003) all the way til now. She used kims name left and right to get a mixtap buz and then further to get even more buz and now she’s “famous” and STILL stressing lil kim.

    HoodStars
    Set it Off
    I’m Cummin

Are just a few, there are dozens and Lil Kim was patient. She didn’t release anything in her last two albums BUT there has to be a breaking point and that came with “Black Friday”. AND, that kills anything Nicki has directed at Kim.

There is another artist that Nicki stresses and sometimes ppl confuse that with a Kim diss, that artist name is Keys “The Problem” and she’s going at Nicki hard and Nicki’s been going back and forth with her and a dozen other chicks for years. SO!! Nicki Minaj’s fans really need to know WHO they’re following. Her old shit is under Nicki Maraj but, you really can find everything you need on the net. She can’t hide the old shit. And saying “I paid homage” is bullshit after the dozen songs she put out there stressing Kim.

Lil’ Kim is no better than Nicki Minaj when it comes to intraracist comments.

On “Came Back for You” (a diss to Eve), Kim referenced dark-skinned Foxy Brown when she said “It’s enough I gotta deal with that doo-doo brown chick” (paraphrased).

Great, so, you’re willing to overlook the DOZENS of songs where she uses the phrase “nappy headed hoe” and lord knows how many other self-hating shit she says? This Nicki, is not the real Nicki. Look around. She’s willing to pretent to be Bi-sexual to get on “OUT” magazine? If that’s not low girl, I don’t know what is!

Um, Nicki, sweetie, just because you hide your natural “nappy” hair with wigs doesn’t mean that every woman has too. That is, unless, you want all women to look like clowns by wearing ridiculously obvious wigs, plastering on pancake batter makeup and contouring their noses into submission to try to make them seem thinner.

Honest Indian…I haven’t listened to this song yet, but I still want to drop some opinionated beats in your ear drums: I love Nicki Minaj. I like that she is loud and beautiful, but still masculine and also hopelessly flawed (the plastic body parts, the painfully obvious absence of her real hair-she’s clearly just as insecure and as under as much pressure as every other woman, mayne.)

I know just about all lyrics to her songs and I love how it makes me feel; it makes me feel like I’m Godzilla or something. (It’s an awesome feeling and gives me a major cup of sugar in the self-esteem Kool Aid!) #nickiminaj
