Menswear Muse: Kanye West - Coco & Creme

Not much has to be said when mentioning the musical genius that is Kanye West. With the online debut of the anticipated album, Watch The Throne with fellow rapper Jay-Z releasing last night, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore the fashion prowess of Mr. West. Music aside, the contemporary gentleman has always been on the seemingly short list of best-dressed rappers. Even from the very beginning of his career, donning Ralph Lauren sweaters, polos and Louis Vuitton backpacks, ‘Ye has always had an impeccable style of dress.

The savvy style star can now be seen in the front row of major fashion shows and most recently in London, teaming up with knitwear designer Louise Goldin, on a label that’s slated to debut this fall at New York Fashion Week. In 2009, he added the title of sneaker designer to his resume. The self-proclaimed “Louis Vuitton Don,” collaborated with the label to design five iconic styles.

We weren’t really all that surprised when Y’e debuted a line of silk unisex scarves, inspired by the five covers of his latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But in true Yeezy form, only 100 samples of each scarf was made available for the price of $350 – leaving us clamoring for more. Fast forward a couple of months and Kanye was spotted wearing a custom made Tory Burch tuxedo (the first for the label) at the 2011 Metropolitan Museum of Arts Gala. He opted for a gold safety pin versus a traditional button to keep the jacket pinned.

Kanye will always be the one to watch on the red carpet. His fashion sense makes you pay attention. It’s coveted, chic, sometimes odd, and always artful.
