Our beloved and ever-stylish First Lady Michelle Obama smiles bright and poses pretty on the October issue of Essence magazine.

In the interview, she confesses to readers it was hard work transitioning from Chicago to the White House, saying:

“My story to young people around this country and around the world is, Don’t look at me as the First Lady first; look at me as Michelle Obama, a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Because I was there, and this is attainable. There is no magic to this. It is hard work….”

She also talks about being a role model and using her life experiences to inspire young women. On the cover, she is feminine and radiant in a gorgeous pink floral dress.

What do you think of Michelle Obama on the cover of Essence?

She looks great. It’s a pretty smile, but I’ve seen her smile prettier. She looks like she’s saying a happy “huh?”
That dress is awesome, but I love her wardrobe period so…

This is a much better cover than the September Essence….This is a great body shot and I am just loving that dress.

My husband thinks she’s been “airbrush” too much….
