With Independence Day over, pictures are trickling in, showing how some of our favorite style stars spent their holiday as well as what they wore. Michelle Obama is one of them, having thrown a fête at the White House on the South Lawn with armed servicemen and women as well as members of the White House staff in attendance.

Naturally, she wore red and blue to commemorate the day, matching perfectly with the President. Here are five reasons why we love her look:

1. The First Lady makes high-fashion look effortless.

Mrs. Obama chose a Spring 2011 dress from Sophie Theallet and Lanvin sandals, two of the hottest luxury brands in the industry right now. Together, the pieces looked effortless, showing that high fashion can be easy and refined without being over the top.

2. We loved her minimal makeup and elegant updo.

BBQs and summer fun are all about keeping cool and looking great. With a fresh face and pulled-back hair, the First Lady achieved the ultimate summer beauty look.

3. When your husband is the President, matching is always cute.

Most would say matching your significant other or husband is cliché and overdone, but here the Obamas look fantastic and color-coordinated.

4. Sophie Theallet supports black models and is a First Lady favorite.

Diversity is such a huge issue in the fashion industry, thus we must always give recognition to designers who are fighting against it and giving models of color shine on the runway. Sophie Theallet has long been an avid supporter of black models, most recently using Anais Mali in her Resort 2012 collection.

5. Wearing red, white and blue can be cheesy, but Michelle Obama gives it a new spin.

Wearing the signature colors on the 4th of July and flag motifs are just as corny as wearing red and green on Christmas. Michelle Obama gave the age-old combination a twist by wearing a punchy print.

What do you think of the Michelle Obama’s Independence Day look? Will you be trying something similar and using her style for inspiration?

i’m not a fan of this particular look but it doesn’t matter.

i love michelle obama. she can do no wrong. she’s a great ambassador for black women.

her husband however is annoying me right now.

i’m glad to see more posted on her. what other black woman is covered as much for her fashion? i’m not shallow or want to reduce her to the clothes she wears, but at the same time, lots of sites regularly post something on michelle’s frocks.

i mean, she has really single-handedly put some designers on the map and kept retailers like jcrew in the fore during the truly rough period of the recent economic downtown.
