With Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City just around the corner, we thought it would be fitting to compile a list of our favorite plus-size fashion designers. We all know that the fashion industry is catered to the slim, size 0 model, but over the years designers have made great strides to include curvy women in their designs. While we’re grateful that many designers are developing plus size lines, we decided to pay homage to those who did it first.

Monif C. Monif C. Plus Sizes

One of the best plus size fashion designers in the industry is none other than Ms. Monif C. She has created trendy and flirty clothing for the contemporary curvy woman. In her designs, you wont look or feel dowdy. One of her many specialties is swimsuits, and with summer only days away, you want to be sure you’re caught on the beach in one of her bathing suits.

Tennille White Tennille White Chicago

Tennille White’s plus size fashions have been spotted on BET’s Rip the Runway 2011. Tennille is an extremely focused and talented fashion designer who creates sophisticated and elegant looks for the curvy woman. Her designs are effortless, fashionable, unique and bright. While her designs have been a huge presence in Chicago, she is on the verge of becoming one of the nation’s top plus size designers.

Queen Grace Collection Queen Grace Collection

The Queen Grace Collection launched its first line in Fall 2011. If you have the pleasure of attending this year’s Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City, you will discover the variety of sophisticated and timeless pieces that make up the Queen Grace Collection. This collection of quality and comfortable pieces celebrates the diversity and size of women. We are certain that you will hear great things about the Queen Grace Collection in the future.

Qristyl Frazier Qristyl Frazier Designs

You may have heard the name Qristyl Frazier before, and that is because she was a contestant on Season 6 of Project Runway. Today she is hard at work on creating some of the most fashionable wear geared to women between the sizes of 12 to 24. Her clothing is tasteful, stylish and ideal for the lifestyles of the women who wear it. Qristyl Frazier’s unparalleled attention to detail and obvious skill and expertise for women’s fashion is evidenced in every piece she designs.

Kim Khanbeigi of Kiyonna Kiyonna

One of the first to venture out into the plus size clothing market was Kim Khanbeigi the founder of Kiyonna, a plus size women’s clothing line. Started in 1996, Kiyonna has prided itself in creating feminine and modern clothing for sizes 0x-5x. The silhouettes are made to flatter a woman’s curves. Kim’s designs are so relevant and sought after, that it will have a size 6 woman dieing to wear it.

    wish these were in stores!

I’m serious but with the exception of Monif C. and Q. frazier, and Kiyonna these are not the top 5. You forgot Igigi, Jibri, and Anna Scholz. Who are dominating forces in the plus size fashion. Igigi is frequently sen on the red carpet by plus size celebs and Anna Scholz offers a number of labels under her brand for the plus size community. You should definitely do another list that includes these brands.

Queen Grace is not a brand that plus size women are crazy about and Tenille collection just came out an is not available for purchase how can they be included in a top 5 list?

  • Sheila

Sorry for the mis-spelled words, typing too fast, but, you get what I’m saying.
