2011 CFDA Awards Recap: Tika Sumpter, Kanye West, Kerry Washington and More - Coco & Creme

Last night, the 2011 CFDA Awards were held in New York City at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. The who’s who of fashion attended in the hottest designers from all over the globe. Above, Chanel Iman stunned in a turquoise BCBGMaxAzria gown and Kanye West kept it simple while awarding Celine designer, Phoebe Philo with her International Award.

Of note, there were no black designers, celebrities or executives honored, despite the attendance of many people of color. Some past winners include Iman last year for the Fashion Icon Award, Michelle Obama for the Board of Directors’ Special Tribute in 2009, Robin Givhan in 2007 for the Eugenia Sheppard Award, Sean Combs for the Menswear Designer of the Year in 2004 and the list goes on. Hopefully, there will be more African Americans given notoriety next year, but we will have to wait and see.

Find a recap of the looks below:

Estelle. Joy Bryant and Rachel Roy.

Ladies in white: Kerry Washington in Calvin Klein Fall 2011 and Liya Kebede in Derek Lam.

Supermodels: Anais Mali in Sophie Theallet and Sessilee Lopez in Zac Posen, with the designer himself.

Fashion powerhouses: Russell Simmons with his date Angela Bellotte and Teri Agins.

What do you think of the looks from the 2011 CFDA Awards? Who are some designers and executives whom you would like to see honored and nominated next year?
