We all know designer runways and top fashion magazines are great places to seek inspiration and get a first-hand look at the latest trends. But here at C+C, we’re more interested in seeing clothes and accessories worn the real way by real people!

Every week or so, we select a particular reader whose sense of fashion sets him/her apart from the rest. “Muse” is meant to be a platform of great style and individuality, and will hopefully inspire other readers to continue looking their best and experimenting fearlessly with their own wardrobes!

Name: Christina Brown

Age: 24

Location: New York

Occupation: Online Editorial Assistant/Blogger

Coco + Creme: Tell me about yourself and how you came to fall in love with Fashion.

Christina Brown: I’ve always loved fashion since Junior High. When I was in college at the University of Pennsylvania, I founded a fashion magazine where I was the Senior Editor. While I was the the magazine was able to forge relationships with designers and boutiques in the Philadelphia area. From there I went to intern at Saks and I did digital marketing at BET. Then when I was at Honey Magazine, I was able to do editorial work professionally. Now I’m at Uptown Magazine! I also started my blog LoveBrownSugar so I could talk about fashion the way I wanted to.

C+C: You inspire a lot of people with your blog but who are your inspirations? Who do you look to as a style icon?

Christina: I have so many! Tracee Ellis Ross is my biggest one. Diana Ross too; I love that old school glam. I’m an old school head; I love the older black stars. I love a Bille Holiday flower behind the ear. I really like the fashion of the ’30s and ’40s too. Currently, I love the Olsen twins and their hobo chic look as well as June Ambrose and of course, Sarah Jessica Parker!

C+C: How would you describe your personal style in 5 words?

Christina: Ugh! This is so hard, but I would say: vintage, bohemian, romantic and downtown chic.

C+C: It’s interesting that you chose those words, how does your personal style reflect your personality?

Christina: I’m really creative and my style reflects that. But I also have a strong business background. I’m very calculating and strategic so that’s a part of my style too. I like to mix business with pleasure. It’s all about balance.

C+C: If we took a peek into your bag, what would we find?

Christina: My blackberry of course, red lipstick L’Oreal Infalliable in Beyonce Red, my digital camera that I not only take pictures with but also shoot HD video for LoveBrownSugar and Uptown Magazine. My Jimmy Choo business card holder, it was a gift from a friend and everytime I pull it out people ask about it. I think it’s supposed to be a coin purse but it’s just cooler this way. I also carry Maybelline Lash Stiletto Volumptous mascara with me for touch-ups. My lashes are one of my biggest assets, they are naturally long and I love the look of big lashes. You would also find my wallet and mirror.

C+C: What trends will we see you in this summer?

Christina: I am loving the midi skirts (they hit the middle of your leg, think calf area). They’re so old school and retro. Plus I like that you have to be really creative to pull them off. I also am loving turbans. I especially like to go to African fabric stores to make really creative ones.
