Ladies, I hope you’ve been filling your piggy banks because there’s now an even greater incentive to hop on a plane and go crazy with our coins! A few days ago, London department store Selfridges reopened their women’s shoe department, so appropriately referred to now as “The Shoe Galleries”. The museum-style layout has more than 5,000 pairs of shoes on display and nearly 100,000 kept in back stock, which makes it the largest women’s shoe department in the world. The brands range from moderate to high-end with such names as TopShop, Tod’s, Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Gucci, and even Havaianas and UGG. And though we’re still recovering in the States from one of the worst economic droughts in recent history, business seems bright for the British retailer. According to the Confederation of British Industry, the footwear market is one of the sectors showing the strongest growth, and reached a peak of $11 billion a year back in 2008. Hey, a girl’s gotta have her shoe game proper, no matter where on the globe she is!
