Looks like we’re getting one step closer to plus-size equality in fashion. Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City will reportedly carry plus-size garments on its high-end designer floor (that’s floors two and three for you NYC ladies). Usually high-end brands only run up to a size 10. Now sizes up to 14 will be carried in looks by Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Carolina Herrera, Max Mara, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Roberto Cavalii and more! In even greater news, some pieces will be available in sizes 16 to 20.
According to Racked, the retailer will stock looks ranging from pantsuits to evening wear. The unfortunate part is that the sizes will be limited. But if the initiative goes well, Saks will stock the plus-size clothes in stores around the nation! How hot is this?
Oh that’s nice….for the size 14s….where I’m from that the BEGINNING of plus size…yea its a foot in the door but thats about it. Extend all the garmets up to size 20 and then you are opening up your horizons
This is great news! Now to roll it out to the rest of the country…especially since my local Bloomie’s has significantly decreased their plus-size selection.
I LOVE Alexander McQueen (may he rest in peace) and always felt that I had to lose weight in order to fit his clothing and a lot of the other high end designers. I’m excited to hear these fashion designers being more plus size friendly and hopefully more designers will be more accommodating as well (note to Betsey Johnson). Being a size 14/16, I get discouraged sometimes by how limited shopping is for me…it’s not that I’m ashamed because it’s taken me a LONG time to be comfortable in my skin, however some of these plus size clothing are just unflattering and unappealing. So not to run on, I hope this is just the beginning.
I love it, there are so many of us that are plus sized and fashionable! The only bad thing is for my wallet. I adore Chanel and Yves.
I think that is great that these designers are starting to realize that their are different shapes and size women out there as oppose to the model types that spend money. Even for women who are not plus size but have a very cuvry figure..i.e. big butt, boobs, and thick thighs but small STILL couldn’t get into those clothes so it is great that they are extending sizes. I never understood why they didn’t do it in the first place because isn’t the point of fashion is to have a following loving and wearing your clothes? So why cut out a large *no pun intended* market of women who aren’t slender, tall, etc?….blank stares…that was just stupid marketing from the jump. However, we need to talk the shoe designers into going above a size 9, sorry but I do have big feet (snobbing) and would love to rock those sexy heels I see all the time if they came above a size 9 or 10
